Skulls Trojan Virus Hits Symbian Phones
News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - November 22, 2004

A new low threat virus has been popping up on some Symbian OS-powered phones, according to an F-Secure anti-virus.

The virushas been found at some Symbian shareware download sites under the filename "Extended Theme Manager" and "Tee-222" with a SymbianOS Installer file (.sis). According to F-Secure if Skulls is installed it will cause all application icons to be replaced with picture of skull and cross bones, and the icons don't refer to the actual applications any more so none of the Phone System applications will be able to start.

Users who are infected with the virus, should not reboot their phones. You can go to the link below for removal instructions.

If you have Skulls on your phone you can still make and receive calls. You will not be able to use some of the other features of the phone that rely on the Symbian OS.

It is important to note that the only way to get this virus is to download and install one of the programs listed above.
