This news cannot be good for the smartphone market. Sony Ericsson's Q2 profits have fallen by a whopping 97%. The company knew their profits would fall in the second quarter but nobody predicted a 97% drop.

Nokia has launched an IM application that allows your friends to see where you are. Currently in beta, Nokia's Chat application integrates with your contacts and allows friends to see others locations.
In addition to letting friends see your location, Chat allows you to mark certain landmarks which will automatically broadcast messages to your friends when you reach that location. You could set the application to notify your friend when you're 1 mile away from his house for example.

According to Bloomberg, US cell phone carrier Sprint may start selling assets to help improve a bad situation for the company. After losing more than 1 million customers last quarter things are looking down for Sprint. In fact, Sprint's quarterly net loss was $505 million.
Some options include selling of Nextel or finding a buyer for the company. They will also be closing Sprint stores and lowering prices.

According to an unconfirmed report, AT&T is in the process of prepping the Nokia N71 for release on its network. The report is unconfirmed but it comes from BGR which is usually reliable.
